Go Away Robot

Go Away Robot is Alex, Jon and Dan. All three grew up playing in their local punk and hardcore scenes (Jon in the North Bay, Dan in Pacifica, Alex in Florida) before ending up in the same band. The name comes from a shared distrust of automated everything, from self-driving cars to AI.

“We started writing dance music mixed with emo and hardcore. Heavier music mixed with electronic music,” says Alex. It didn't fit any one genre, so it became its own: electronic punk you can dance to, with lyrics you're meant to hear and feel. “Our lyrics are typically sad but with electronic happy parts and more aggressive parts as well.”

Strange Days

The three-track Strange Days was written while Alex and Jon were in each other's COVID bubble. The title song is about fighting addiction, “and inevitably trading one addiction for another, not ever really solving the problem,” says Jon. Its vocals came out of the hip-hop Alex was listening to at the time, Lupe Fiasco most of all. Drug and alcohol abuse runs through the whole record, along with what the band sees on the streets of San Francisco.

The keyboard on the cover is real. The band set it on fire for the release.

Live

Shows get rowdy: mosh pits, dance-offs, and a dance-club sound system the band brings along themselves, which has drawn the occasional visit from the police.

“I just hope they wanna come out to shows and get crazy.”
