UVERworld first started out as a small independent band with 7 members. However, after the release of "Prime'03," their first demo CD, two of those 5 members left the group for various reasons. After the departure, the remaining five decided to rename the group to UVERworld. The current members are Takuya∞, Katsuya, Akira, Nobuto, and Shintarou.
Unfortunately, very little is known of the band between their first demo CD and when they signed onto the SME sub-label, gr8! records, in 2005. They made their debut with the song, D-technolife, and reached all the way to 4th place on the Oricon singles chart. To this day, D-technolife still remains as one of their most popular songs. The song was also featured as one of the Opening Themes to Bleach.
Seeing the success of D-technolife being coupled together with Bleach, their second single, Chance!, was released as the opening theme for the PSP game, Bleach: Heat the Soul. The second single, again, reached very high in the Oricon charts debuting in the fifth spot.
In 2006, UVERworld released their first full album titled Timeless. The album sold over 60,000 copies and gained number five in the Oricon charts. Then, even further continuing their success that started off in anime openings, they released Colors of the Heart, as the third opening for Blood+.
With each song of theirs that appeared in animes having incredible success, they began creating themes for Japanese live action dramas as well. Their fifth single, Shamarock, was released in 2006 and was the ending theme for Dance Drill. It was followed by another single, Kimi no Suki na Uta, for the show Koi Suru Hanikami!
The second album, Bugright, was released in beginning of 2007 and included all of the singles that were released after Timeless. After that, they released more singles and eventually their third album, Proglution. It included more hit songs like Ukiyo Crossing, Endspace, and Shaka Beach: Laka Laka La.
However, in mid-2008, they returned back to their anime roots and come out with the single, Gekidou, used as the opening theme for the anime D.Gray-man. Then afterwards,
Hakanaku mo Towa no Kanashi, which was used as the opening for Mobile Suit Gundam 00. For the first time, this single reached all the way to number one on the Oricon singles chart and is the highest selling single to this day.
Awakeve, their fourth album, was released in 2009 and sold over 115,000 copied in just one week gaining rank two on the charts. Shortly after, they tapped back into their drama side and released Go-on, which ended up being used as the ending theme for the Japanese broadcast of the popular American drama, House. Later that year, Shoujoujo Seira, another drama, featured Kanashimi wa Kitto as its theme song.
2010 was yet another bustling year for the band releasing two major singles, Gold and Qualia, and yet another full-length album. The Music Video for Gold ended up being the first 3D MV in Japan. Qualia was chosen as the the ending theme for the new Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Movie. Their fifth album, LAST, contained Go-on and Kanashimi wa Kitto on the tracklist as well as 11 other new songs.
Their latest album to this date, Life 6 Sense, was released just this June and contained a single, Core Pride, that became the opening theme for the popular anime, Ao no Exorcist.
UVERworld, ever since their debut with Bleach, has been one of the bands that could be so closely related to anime culture. With so many of thier songs featured in anime themes or made popular by anime, and having such catchy beats, there is no question that UVERworld is loved by otakus all over the world!
Unfortunately, due to SME having such strict copyright protection on Youtube and other video sharing sites, I'm unable to offer you guys some music videos for this post. But, it's not to hard to go search around for thier songs -.^
